The history of the Rihannsu is a long and proud one. Our name itself is part of that history, which began on Vulcan over two thousand years ago. Once, the Vulcans were a passionate and fierce race. Warriors living on the desert planet, battling for survival in the harshest climates imaginable. They were strong, and resilient, and deeply emotional people. Then came Surak, the Vulcan who preached for the suppression of emotions and the embrace of pure logic and peace. Many followed him, including the Father of the Rihannsu, S'Task, who was Surak's greatest student.
An era of peace swept over the desolate planet of Vulcan, and during that time, the first contact with alien species was made. Orion pirates transmitted messages of peace and friendship to the Vulcans, asking to meet with its leaders to talk. Surak convinced the other Vulcan tribal city state leaders to go, but was stranded on the planet and unable to attend himself. S'Task went in his place, and the Orions captured him along with the other leaders, ransoming them for the wealth of the planet. The Vulcans were outraged, and began a long war with these pirates instead of giving in to their demands or negotiating for peace as Surak begged them to.
In the end, the Vulcans pushed back the pirates, and S'Task led a daring revolt against his captors, capturing their ship and freeing his brethren. Risking his own life, he rammed the captured ship into the Orion Mother Ship, destroying it and finally granting victory to the betrayed Vulcan people. He survived for over two weeks in an escape pod drifting in space, his anger and strength of will keeping him alive until he was rescued. It was after this conflict that the Vulcan people began to separate. S'Task realized the truth of his people, and of their history, and of their emotions. He could not bear to turn his back on this truth as Surak and all of his followers had done, but he knew that to start another war between his people, even those foolish enough to abandon their emotions, would be devastating.
Instead, he gathered those who still embraced the traditions, who still had the flame of passion in their souls, and built great ships for them to leave their home behind, and find a new world to safeguard the old one and the old ways. 80,000 brave men, women, and children boarded these vessels and began "The Journey." They eventually called themselves Rihannsu, or 'The Declared'. For over one hundred years in ships not even capable of warp travel, these 'Declared' searched for a new world. They faced many hardships and enemies, obstacles to their sacred journey. In the end, only 18,000 survived to see the Twin worlds of ch'Rihan and ch'Havran. These worlds were lush with vegetation and rich with resources and water, much unlike the dry home they left behind. This was the reward of the Elements for their endurance.
The hardships of the Rihannsu did not end there. Wars, famines, and disease killed half of those Declared that had survived or been born during the Journey and had inhabited the worlds of the Eisn (homesun) system. The government established was a jumble of voices, each province having a council, and each council having members sent to a 'High Council'. This bureaucracy proved to be ineffective and collapsed, allowing the darkest leader in Rihannsu history to come to power. Vriha t'Rehu, the first and only queen of our people, began her reign only 50 years after the finding of ch'Rihan and ch'Havran. She ruled with an iron fist, bringing organization and industrialization of the Rihannsu worlds. But also by sacrificing the lives and honor of many of our people. Only the Father, S'Task, stood up against t'Rehu and her armies, and he too was killed by her jealous anger and lack of mnhei'sahe.
From that day forth, the Rihannsu swore that no one person would ever again control the Shiar, and the tricameron was established. The Praetorate and the two houses of the Senate serve to balance the power of each other, and guarantee that the government of the Shiar remains stable while still being effective.
Many hundreds of years later, the Rihannsu people began receiving messages once again from space. They were transmitted from a Federation ship, messages of peace and friendship. We would not be tricked again and prepared for the coming invasion. Their technology surpassed ours at the time, but our tactics and fierce devotion gave us the advantage, and the war that ensued was won as the Lloan'na (Federation) were forced to turn back their forces and negotiate peace from afar.
Since that time, we have colonized many worlds and created the Stelam Shiar (Star Empire). Our fleet is feared and respected by every race who knows the name Rihannsu. But we are still the caretakers of the galaxy, and no other yikh (racial slur for 'alien') can be trusted. Time and time again we have been shown that only Rihannsu word is truth. Only Rihannsu promises are always kept. Only Rihannsu actions are for the good of all, as we follow mnhei'sahe to honor the Elements, and thus the Universe. Remember this always. The yikh may seem docile, may seem to be domesticated, but they can turn on you much as a wild animal you believe to be a trusted pet. Always keep your guard against their treachery, and show no fear of the yikh.
